ANZ Bank Archives visit

This year’s Heritage Festival offers you the opportunity to visit the ANZ Bank Archives, which holds archives and objects for New Zealand's first bank and other ANZ predecessor banks.

Banks are an important part of society and play an essential role in the economy. ANZ New Zealand can trace its roots back to the early European settlement of Wellington, when the Union Bank of Australia first opened for business at Britannia (now Petone) on March 24, 1840. Over 180 years later, ANZ New Zealand became the country’s largest bank. This year’s Heritage Festival offers you the opportunity to visit the ANZ Bank Archives, which holds archives and objects from the Union Bank and other ANZ predecessor banks. See the Bank’s first customer signature book, containing signatures of early settlers; view technology used in banking over the years and early videos; see and hear how banking has changed over the past 180 years or more, and find out what a bank archivist does. Numbers for each visit are limited.
