Behind the Scenes: How We Digitise Photos at the Wairarapa Archive

Two soldiers training with a Vickers machine gun with no ammunition belt attached. The soldier holding the firing handle may be Len Frances. Found among photos collected by Len Frances, and thought to have been taken circa 1940-1943.

Ever wondered how historic photos are preserved for future generations? Step behind the scenes at the Wairarapa Archive and find out!

Join us for a guided look at how we digitise our photo collections—from choosing what to preserve, to the tools and techniques we use. See how we protect the past while making it accessible for whānau, researchers, and the whole community.

Health & Safety

Your safety is important to us. The session will be held indoors at the Wairarapa Archive with staff on hand to guide you throughout. We’re keeping numbers small so everyone has space to move around comfortably, and we’ll let you know what to do in the unlikely event of an emergency.
