Bring Back the Natives: Green Belt, Newtown

Walking tour and Butterfly Art Installation. Wander through a regenerating forest on the town belt with host and co-creator artist Paul Forrest.

Come and see the historical landscape and waterways of Newtown from a bird's eye point of view, and hear the history of Newtown's maunga. 12 years ago 'Bring Back the Natives' was created as an art movement to transform and regenerate the recently cleared town belt above Newtown into a thriving native forest. Hundreds of volunteers have helped with this, and we've heard lots of stories of the ancient history along the way. The art installation involves a butterfly trail on the ridge, created by The Butterfly Bowling Club.
