You'll be surrounded by history at the legendary Tauherenikau Racecourse – which dates from 1866. Follow the racecourse story walk and learn about the history of this pioneering place. The kids can ride the mini train and even meet Santa.

With eight races, this will be a stunning Sunday afternoon. Better yet, there’s no gate charge. Race one will begin at 1:00pm (approx) and the last race commence at 5:00pm (approx).

Tauherenikau Racecourse

The Wairarapa Racing Club holds three race meetings each year at Tauherenikau. Our Christmas Raceday is held on Sunday 9 November. Expect a relaxed day. Tauherenikau is famous for its picnic atmosphere, and generations of families from the Wairarapa and surrounding areas such as Wellington and Palmerston North, and from as far away as Auckland, make the trip to be part of racedays. You’ll find families and friends nestled under the trees with their picnic hampers enjoying the atmosphere and picturesque surroundings. There’s plenty to do for everyone. In addition to the excitement of the races themselves, kids can take time out to ride on the train, enter kid’s competitions and also have a bounce around on the many castles and slides in the kid’s entertainment area.
