Crime and Punishment

Delve into the stories of the gaolers, judges, and policemen who dealt with the city’s criminal elements, as well as notorious villains and murderers.

Hear stories about the gaolers, judges and policemen who were dealing with the city's criminal elements, as well as some of the villains and murderers that shocked earlier generations in Wellington. Find out about the dueling pistol that was involved in the deaths of a lawyer and a magistrate; and about an unsolved murder on a quiet farm road. There’s even a criminal or two.

This tour starts at 4.30pm from the Bolton Street Cemetery Museum, near 26 Bolton Street, and finishes back at the Museum.

Children aged 12 and under are free; well-behaved dogs, on leads, are welcome.
