Featherston Booktown

Featherston Booktown is a year-round literature development organisation whose largest project is the annual Karukatea Festival in May, a major regional and national cultural event. The Festival features collaborations with Mana Whenua, literary festivals, and organisations nationwide, plus strong community involvement through school programmes and volunteers. Other initiatives include the Young Readers Programme, the Book Voucher scheme for South Wairarapa children, the Booklover’s Trail Te Ara Kai Pukapuka audio app, a podcast and YouTube channel, and the Rural Readers Outreach Programme. Featherston Booktown’s mission is to grow great communities by inspiring people in Featherston/Paetūmōkai, Wairarapa, and across Aotearoa to read more, write more, engage in dialogue, and share ideas.
