Fell Locomotive Museum Open Day

Wairarapa Archive 17-152/1-36

Meet the Hero of the Hill: H199, the worlds sole surviving Fell Locomotive.

Learn about the history of the Rimutaka Incline, one of only three railways built to Fell's patent and now a cycle way and footpath. The museum includes signalling equipment, a Fell brakevan, and a 17-minute documentary film showing the railway in 1949. There are toy trains for children, or they can make the Hero of the Hill itself move.

Health & Safety

Take care around heavy machinery and moving objects. Please keep children under supervision at all times. In case of fire, the assembly point is the oak tree outside. A defibrillator is located nearby on the main road.
