Kāpiti Coast Museum

Come into the former Waikanae Post Office which was built in 1907 and explore the social history of the Kāpiti Coast.

Originally the Waikanae Post Office which was built in 1907, and opened by former Prime Minister Sir William Hall-Jones in February 1908. Typical of post offices at the time, the building was divided into two separate areas: the street-facing front half housed the post office while at the rear was a private residence for the Postmaster, consisting of a kitchen, bathroom, two bedrooms and a parlour. The building has architectural significance as a small Post Office typical of the period. It operated as the Post Office until 1982.

Come into the building and wander through some eclectic exhibitions featuring the social history of the Kāpiti Coast. They range from ‘Home Entertainment over the 20th Century’" to a “School Classroom 100 Years Ago", complete with blackboard and chalk and times tables.
