National Library 60th Birthday Open Home

Your National Library Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa is turning 60! We’re opening our doors in Wellington and invite you to drop in to celebrate with us.

To celebrate 60 years of the National Library, we’re throwing the doors wide open. We are excited to celebrate with you, your whānau and your communities.

Our curators, librarians, archivists and conservators will share some of their favourite collection items and take visitors behind the scenes of the Library. There will be tours of He Tohu, a chance to help build a replica waka and a kids’ corner to keep the whānau entertained. At 2pm, we’ll be celebrating with cake and speeches at HOME Café.

Our friends at City Gallery Wellington will be open from 1pm to 4pm, and HOME Café from 9am to 3:30pm.

National Library – Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa

National Library collects, connects, and co-creates knowledge to power New Zealand. Focusing on taonga, knowledge, and reading, we are caretakers of collections such as music, paintings, prints, manuscripts, newspapers, oral histories, and comics. Alexander Turnbull Library is part of the National Library with collections including oral histories, photographs, music, digital materials, rare books, and fine printing. We are here to help you access and use the collective knowledge of the nation. It is home to the Alexander Turnbull Library, a leading research library which holds the world's foremost Katherine Mansfield collection.
