Ngā Manu 50th Anniversary Bush Walk

As part of our 50 year celebrations, we would like to invite you on a guided hikoi through our ngahere and a kōrero on the history of the Ngā Manu Trust.

Ngā Manu Nature Reserve, a cornerstone of conservation and Kāpiti tourism, proudly commemorates 50 years of dedication to sustainability and education. Since 1974 Ngā Manu has been committed to preserving and enhancing native forests so their inhabitants can flourish.

From humble beginnings the reserve has evolved from a valuable and rare fragment of original lowland forest. It now symbolises a future where our indigenous natural heritage is not only valued and preserved, but is integrated back into our landscape, lives, and consciousness.

Ngā Manu invites the community, members of the media, partners, clients, and customers to join us in celebrating this momentous occasion with a guided bush walk and discussion on the origins and kaupapa of the reserve.

Ngā Manu Nature Reserve

At Ngā Manu Nature Reserve a world of natural treasures is revealed. Our 14 hectare reserve preserves one of the largest remnants of coastal lowland swamp forest on the Kapiti Coast and provides a haven for New Zealand’s native birds and wildlife. Our kaupapa is rooted in the Trust’s goals to preserve and enhance native forests so that their inhabitants can flourish. Since inception Ngā Manu has partnered with DOC and others in many breed-for-release programmes which seek to re-establish at risk species of birds and reptiles into the wild. In addition to these programmes Nga Manu has a long history of involvement in the treatment and rehabilitation of native bird species which are brought to us by the local community.
