Off the Beaten Track Tour

Stretch your legs on this tour! Off the Beaten Track takes you off the main road, exploring a bit further into the older sections of Karori Cemetery.

We walk up and down the hills, through the gullies and alongside the creek to discover some interesting characters and some of the history of the cemetery as well. Stories of magicians, murders, soldiers, skylarkers are recounted.

Moderate fitness and surefootedness are required, and this tour is not suitable for those with mobility issues.

Friends of Karori Cemetery

The Friends of Karori Cemetery Inc was formed in early 2020 The Friends have a close working relationship with the Cemetery management team, and with the WCC. The WCC aspire to progressively develop the heritage aspects of the Cemetery, and one of the Friend’s main objectives is to support and assist the WCC achieve this. The Friends are a wholly volunteer–based organisation with an elected Committee which provides leadership and governance. We support the preservation, protection and enhancement of the heritage, recreational and ecological aspects of Karori Cemetery, we promote public interest in the Cemetery and support and undertake research into the history of the Cemetery and those interred in it.
