"The Petone Beat" - Policing in Petone since 1840

Courtesy of the New Zealand Police Museum

Did you know Petone was the first place in New Zealand to have a Police force? Come and hear about this, and it's significance in New Zealand's history.

Our Heritage Officer will be giving a talk on the history of the Police in Petone since 1840 until today! You'll then be able to do a self-tour of the Old Jail Museum.

** Limited to 8 people **

Health & Safety

If raining, the ramp leading to the Old Jail Museum can be a little bit slippery when going down it. We will let people know, and if necessary, our Heritage Officer or JSP Ambassador can help people walk down the ramp.
