Tiptoe through the Tombstones

Discover the stories of those buried in New Zealand’s oldest heritage cemetery and connect with the rich history of our city on this tour.

Join this tour of New Zealand’s oldest heritage cemetery, and hear stories about some of the people buried here. Seize this opportunity to learn about the varied lives of people who lived in nineteenth-century Wellington. Settlers and Māori both influenced the development of what was to become the nation’s capital, and their headstones can give us intriguing clues.

This tour starts at the Seddon Memorial, by the parking area at the end of Kinross Street, and finishes at the Bolton Street Cemetery Museum, lower Bolton Street.

Children aged 12 and under are free; well-behaved dogs, on leads, are welcome.
