Bring friends and family to the Wrights Hill Fortress Open Day on Labour Day Monday 28th October. History and family entertainment.

A self-guided one-hour tour of the maze of tunnels under Wrights Hill in Karori is a must for all visitors. Witness the bold plans New Zealand made for protecting Wellington the capital city, from enemy invasion or bombardment in the Second World War.

See the efforts of the volunteer Restoration Society has made over the past 35 years. Historical photos and a DVD of a huge 9.2-inch gun firing, plus weapons displays. Limited car parking. Free map and history pamphlet.

Health & Safety

Stout footwear required, no jandals, no running or jumping on steel plates allowed. Bring a torch for some fun, but fully lit inside. Warm clothing advised. Unsuitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. Parents must take responsibility for carrying infants. Not advised on concrete steps and stairs. A continuous siren indicates careful evacuation.

Wrights Hill Fortress Restoration Society Inc.

The Wrights Hill Fortress Restoration Society is vested with restoring the historic WW2 Fortress to its former glory. We are a self- funding Charitable Society, run by volunteers. Funds gathered at Open Days and guided tours provide the support needed to manage the Fortress, which was built in 1942.
