A Wartime Evening at the RSA
Experience an evening of wartime food, music and memories at the Featherston RSA, celebrating the stories and spirit of the World War II era.
Come along for a fun, informative and nostalgic evening of history, laughter, song and great food.
Your evening will be themed around a warrant officers' and senior NCOs' mess dinner evening, from within a Second World War air raid shelter. As you eat your meal, your narrator will take you through the years of World War II, from the invasion of Poland and the miracle of Dunkirk, to the Pacific and Monte Cassino, all the way through to VE and VJ Day, plus much more in between.
The food will be loosely based on the type of fare people ate during the years of rationing - think potted meat, bangers and mash, and stewed apples.
Your meal will be slightly different though. Instead of potted meat, you'll have a delicious pate, accompanied with melba toast and a cherry relish. This will be followed by exquisite gourmet sausages from Greytown Butcher, served with delicious creamed potatoes, peas, and onion gravy. Dessert will be a delectable apple pie, served with a sumptuous vanilla custard. The meal will be rounded off with cheese and biscuits.
You are highly encouraged to wear 1940s attire or military uniform, with a prize for best dressed man and best dressed woman.
