Bespoke Wheelwrighting Experience

Join us at Aotearoa's only Wheel and Carriage Works for a bespoke and intriguing Wheelwrighting Experience.

The bespoke Wheelwrighting Experience includes:

• Hands-on demonstration of wooden wheel building. • A guided tour of the workshop and current restoration/conservation projects (from horse drawn to railway!) • Learn about the skills and techniques required to build, conserve and restore wooden bodied vehicles. • A talk on the history of wheelwrighting, The Wheelwright Hub and plans for the future. • Participate in a hands-on wheel trying experience over an open fire. • Photo opportunities with unique heritage vehicles. • Q&A session with your hosts, Greg & Ali Lang. • Hands-on demonstration of wooden wheel building.

Health & Safety

This tour takes place in an active workshop. Participants will receive a safety briefing on arrival and adhere to instructions on arrival from the hosts. Please wear closed footwear and bring warm clothing as the tour will involve an outdoor component.

The Wheelwright Hub

The Wheelwright Hub specialises in traditional wooden wheel and carriage building, including restoration and conservation. The Wheelwright Hub was established in 1994 by Greg and Ali Lang and is now the last remaining wheelwright and carriage business in NZ. Greg and Ali are passionate about preserving this unique part of Aotearoa's heritage, as well as the art and craftsmanship skills required for future generations.
