A rare chance to go behind the scenes at Aratoi Wairarapa Museum of Art and History. Head into the Collection Store with Director Sarah McClintock.

Aratoi holds the only public collection of Art in the Wairarapa and we are opening up the doors for a very special weekend! We care for nearly 3000 pieces of art, objects, taonga and natural history specimens held in our Collection Store. Take a tour behind the scenes with Sarah who will delight you with tales from the Collection plus explain how we care for our special objects and art.

Health & Safety

The Collection Store has stairs and is a working space. There may be objects on tables that will need to be avoided. No under 18's please. Bags or cameras aren't allowed in the Collection Store, please leave them at the Front Desk for the duration of the Tour.

Aratoi Wairarapa Museum of Art & History

Aratoi Wairarapa Museum of Art and History is the only museum in the region to hold a significant collection of art, taonga, and social history objects. The museum marked its 50th anniversary in 2019 with a major exhibition, public programmes, and a publication available for purchase. Currently, Aratoi hosts between 25-30 exhibitions annually, delivers a free education programme to thousands of students, runs public programmes, and operates a museum shop.
