Learn the history of Pūkaha from the local iwi Rangitāne. Talks from experts on a variety of species, including the Takahē, Kiwi, Whio, Pāteke, Longfin Tuna, Kākā, and even the bugs.

The efforts being made to protect and rejuvenate our natural environment.

This event is more than just an educational experience—it’s a call to action.

Health & Safety

The Loop Track (including to the Lookout) is not suitable for wheelchairs as it involves rocky, uneven and steep terrain. If you are on foot you will find stairs and steep uphill and downhill walking.

Rangitāne o Wairarapa Inc

Rangitāne o Wairarapa was first established back in 1989. In those early days the focus was researching whakapapa and education. There was a strong demand for many to learn Te Reo and in particular to recapture the local Rangitāne kōrero. The Runanga has staff that cover a wide range of roles and responsibilities. We also have an Executive Board that oversees the strategic development of the iwi. Our focus is to support whānau to develop their own Rangatiratanga. We do this by: Community leadership Cultural advice Resource Management Working with Crown/Local Government. Relationship building with other iwi, local business and other services Working with Youth Whānau Advocacy Whakapapa and registrations Customary Fishing Iwi representation in Health Arts Cultural Heritage.
