Join us for a deep dive into the history of the establishment of Ōtari-Wilton's Bush.

Leonard Cockayne devised a schema for native plant conservation at Ōtari. On this walk with Dr Carol West, we’ll learn about the four elements of the scheme and see examples of those that he specifically oversaw the establishment of, along with others that have been implemented more recently.

Please wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather. Most walking is on gentle paths, some slightly steeper trails are optional. The tour may be cancelled due to dangerous weather.

Ōtari-Wilton’s Bush Trust is a public charitable trust made up of people who care deeply about the preservation of this internationally significant native botanic garden and forest reserve. Members include families, retirees, keen gardeners, walkers, photographers, botanists and conservationists.
