Celebrate Kahe Te Rau o te Rangi and Te Rangitopeora — distinguished rangatira of Kāpiti who signed the Treaty to affirm their authority over the land.

He mea whakaohooho ā rāua manatunga tuku iho e a rāua uri ake me ngā ringatoi o Te Ātiawa ki Whakarongotai, o Ngāti Toa Rangatira, o Ngāti Raukawa, o ngā mataawaka, me Te Wānanga o Raukawa anō hoki, mā te toi, e honoa ai ki a Whenua Wāhine Rangatiratanga.

Celebrate Kahe Te Rau o te Rangi and Te Rangitopeora — distinguished rangatira of Kāpiti who signed the Treaty to affirm their authority over the land. The taonga in the exhibition are testament to their mana and carry forward an enduring legacy. See artwork created by their own descendants responding to their tūpuna. See also work by other Te Ātiawa ki Whakarongotai, Ngāti Toa Rangatira, Ngāti Raukawa and mataawaka artists, and Te Wānanga o Raukawa weavers and carvers, exploring connections to Land, Women and Rangatiratanga.

Curated by Kohai Grace, the exhibition features artwork by Charlotte Orzecki, Gina Solomon, Elaine Bevan, Ezra Bevan, Neke Moa, Brian Climie, Aimee Porteners, Matene Te Putu Climie, Hinepūororangi Winiata, Hariata Ropata-Tangahoe, Adrienne Spratt, Chris Gerretzen, Erena Baker, Kere Pomare, Karl Leonard, Tracey Patete, Ranea Aperahama and Toi Waiariki tukutuku collective.

Toi MAHARA

Toi MAHARA is the district gallery for the Kāpiti Coast. There are four exhibition spaces showcasing local creativity, toi Māori, historical art, and work by regionally and nationally significant artists. Toi MAHARA is also the home of The Field Collection, which focuses on 24 paintings by Frances Hodgkins. It is the largest public collection of this renowned artist’s work outside Te Papa and Auckland and Dunedin art galleries.
