Heritage Trees in the Wellington Botanic Garden
Join us for an enlightening heritage walk through the historic Wellington Botanic Garden, sharing the stories of heritage trees.
In 1868, James Hector was appointed manager of the then 13-acre (5.66 hectares) area set aside for the Wellington Botanic Garden. It is now home to some of the oldest exotic trees in New Zealand, and is both a Garden of National Significance and the first public garden in New Zealand to be classified as an historic area by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust. The one-hour heritage walk will focus on many of the notable specimen trees planted since 1868.
