Randell Cottage Annual Open Day
Tour this small colonial Cottage, which originally housed a couple and ten children. Share tasty free afternoon teas and listen to authors reading their works.
Randell Cottage is a rare example of colonial domestic architecture, a Category II listed building in the heart of Thorndon. It retains most of its 19th century configuration, although modified as a comfortable home for writers from NZ and France. It is only open to the public once a year as part of the Heritage Festival.
The event includes a series of readings from current and past residents under a sheltering gazebo. Free afternoon teas and book raffles are included. A limited programme will be offered if the weather is poor.
The Open Day is part of a walking tour of four Historic Thorndon residences.
Health & Safety
St Mary Street is short but steep and footpaths are uneven. The Cottage itself is single-story. Care should be taken on paving and floor rugs. Sensible footwear is advised.
Please wear good shoes and dress for the weather. The tour may be cancelled in bad weather.
