A presentation using works painted by the famous Pumpkin Cottage artists to tell the history of the Silverstream area.
The Pumpkin Cottage school of en plein air impressionism is widely considered New Zealand’s first art movement. This illustrated presentation introduces a new online resource that seeks to link the numerous paintings these artists made around Silverstream in the early 20th century with a history of this area at that time. Where possible, it also attempts to identify the specific locations where these works were painted and relate this to Silverstream as it is today.
The presentation will also feature a display of works from the Whirinaki Whare Taonga Pumpkin Cottage Collection.
