Stonehenge Aotearoa: Heritage Tour & Sunset Stargazing
New Zealand's own Stonehenge, where ancient heritage meets a Wairarapa sunset and the southern night sky comes alive.
Join us at Stonehenge Aotearoa, a full-scale working henge in the Wairarapa Dark Sky Reserve, for a heritage presentation exploring both European and Māori astronomical traditions. Afterwards, watch the sun set across the stones as the southern sky begins to reveal its stars. A rare chance to connect ancient heritage with modern astronomy, right here in Carterton.
Suitable for older children and adults.
Optional add-on: a specially developed "Star Talk" session exploring Māori astronomy and other ancient traditions (Egyptian and beyond) is available for small groups by request - ask on booking.
Health & Safety
Stonehenge Aotearoa is an outdoor rural site with uneven ground underfoot, please wear closed-toe, sturdy footwear. As this event runs into dusk, lighting is limited around the stone circle; guests are asked to stay on marked paths and remain with the group during the guided sections. The site is exposed to the weather, dress warmly for a Wairarapa evening. On-site toilets are available. Children must be supervised by a parent or caregiver at all times. Limited on-site parking, please follow signage on arrival. In the event of severe weather, the event may be rescheduled and ticket holders notified directly.
