The Archaeology of Wellington Station

Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company station at Wellington. Ref: PA1-f-239-02. Alexander Turnbull Library

The Wellington Station rail yards have revealed archaeology during construction works! This talk will detail some of the stories of early Wellington uncovered.

Station buildings, engine sheds, a weigh station, refreshment room crockery and plenty of drainage systems are some of what has been uncovered in the rail yard. Sarah will discuss what remains and what stories these things can tell us about the early city and the people who lived here.
