The Chapel of Our Lady of Compassion Tour

Join a tour of our Category 1 Historic Place Chapel and Resting Place of Meri Hōhepa Suzanne Aubert. Come experience the rich history of this sacred space.

Two forty-five-minute tours will be offered over the course of each morning. Each tour will include the history of the building, the meanings behind the stained-glass windows, and the significance of the site as an ongoing place of worship. Participants will have the opportunity to visit the final Resting Place of Meri Hōhepa Suzanne Aubert who founded the Sisters of Compassion, the only religious order born in Aotearoa New Zealand. Come and experience the rich history and spirituality that are embedded in these sacred places. Our Cloister Cafe will be open to welcome you for coffee or lunch. Please stick around after your tour and enjoy the cafe and grounds!

Health & Safety

If arriving by foot, the driveway and carpark can be busy. For safety, we encourage guests to stay within the painted white lines while walking up the driveway. Our one-way road system is clearly signposted. In case of an emergency, evacuation procedures will be clearly communicated to each tour group. Staff will manage any necessary building evacuations. Staff will ensure interior tour areas are clear of hazards that may cause harm or tripping. Our gardens and pathways are clearly marked but can be rough under foot, creating possible tripping hazards. In the case of injury, staff have First Aid certification, and access to First Aid supplies. While in the Chapel, we ask that tour groups stay in the areas outlined by staff.
