Seven artists respond to the layered histories of Nairn Street Cottage, exploring the material traces and stories held within and the whenua it stands on.
Unsettling Nairn Street brings together seven contemporary artists responding to the rooms, materials and histories of Nairn Street Cottage. Inspired by Richard Shaw’s writing on Pākehā whakapapa and colonial legacies, the exhibition invites visitors to reconsider the stories embedded in this 1850s Wellington home. From early wallpaper fragments to a 1970s influenced kitchen, the artists stir up the past, exploring place, memory and inheritance. Unsettling Nairn Street is available for self-guided walk-ins for free during opening hours from 1 August until 31 October.
