Calling all Wairarapa rangatahi, aspiring filmmakers, storytellers & creative minds!
Can you research, film and edit a short film in just 48 hours?
Working individually or as a team, you'll create a film of up to 5 minutes inspired by a real story, place, person or event from Wairarapa's rich history. Whether your story explores iwi history, local legends, or moments that shaped our region, this is your opportunity to bring the past to life through your own creative lens.
Use documentary, drama, animation, comedy, social media style, music video, or any format you choose. Creativity, storytelling & connection to Wairarapa heritage are what matter most.
With $1,000 worth of prizes up for grabs, generously gifted by Trust House Ltd., this is your chance to showcase your talent while celebrating the stories that make Wairarapa unique.
This event runs from 30 October to 2 November.
Health & Safety
Participants are responsible for their own safety and the safety of their team while travelling and filming. Obtain permission before filming on private property or in restricted areas. Do not enter unsafe locations or closed/off limits sites. Follow all road rules and be aware of traffic when filming near roads or public spaces. Be mindful of uneven ground, waterways, and other natural hazards. Check weather conditions and dress appropriately. Carry a charged mobile phone and let someone know your filming locations. Stay hydrated, use sun protection, and take regular breaks. If filming at dawn, dusk or after dark, ensure locations are well-lit and work in pairs or groups where possible. Respect cultural sites and tikanga. Do not access wāhi tapu or culturally significant places without permission. Seek consent from anyone who is identifiable in your film. If using drones, operators must comply with New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority rules and obtain any required permissions.
