Visit the house and garden of composer Douglas Lilburn and hear live music from the current composer-in-residence, Eve de Castro-Robinson, and friends.
The Lilburn House at 22 Ascot St, Thorndon, has a category 1 Heritage listing, because it is an excellent example of modernist domestic architecture, and because it was the home of the illustrious New Zealand composer, Douglas Lilburn. These days, it is offered each year to a new, Composer-in-Residence — currently internationally renowned composer, Dr Eve de Castro-Robinson.
The Open Day offers a rare opportunity to visit the house and enjoy the garden. There will be short performances focusing on Eve de Castro-Robinson’s work at 2.30 pm and 3.30 pm.
Health & Safety
The approach to the front gate at 22 Ascot St from the downhill (Eastern) side is quite steep. For a wheelchair user, there are a few bumps getting through the front gate and three small steps into the house.
